FAQ

What are Cuttlepods?
Cuttlepods are an original creature created by Teaghanne Braun. They are part cuttlefish, part isopod, but all snugglefloof.

How can you ensure each and every one is different?
We make sure each plush is different due to our production process. Before we start sewing, each plush is assigned a "Unique ID" code. This code is not random, but instead designates the colours and materials used for each plush. This way, no two Unique ID codes are the same, therefore the combination of materials is one-of-a-kind!
Each Cuttlepod is just as unique as the person who takes it home!

What is the "Unique ID" code?
The Unique ID code is an in-house method of tracking that helps ensure no two Cuttlepods are exactly the same. After the plush has been created, the Unique ID code can be thought of as a serial number.
Can I use the Unique ID code elsewhere on the website?
Eventually, I hope to create a system on the website where someone can enter their Unique ID code and open a special page with all the information about their one-of-a-kind Cuttlepod. This is in the works, but as of right now the Unique ID code is more like a serial number, or SKU number.

Where are Cuttlepods manufactured?
Every Cuttlepod plush is manufactured in the spare bedroom of my home in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada.

Where did the name "Cuttlepods" come from?
Since the idea for Cuttlepods was inspired by cuttlefish and isopods, I took the two words and smooshed them into one!
cuttlefish + isopod = Cuttlepod

What's the deal with all the different species?
Each species has a specific style and colour of body. The ruffles and face are what makes the individuals within a species unique.
More information about all the different species can be found here!

Will another Cuttlepod have the same name as mine?
No, every Cuttlepod has its very own unique name.

Do I get to choose the colour of my Cuttlepod?
When adopting a Cuttlepod, you can choose the colour, style, and size. The secondary colours, like the face colour and ruffles, will be random. This is to keep each plush unique. If you would like to choose the secondary colours, you can send me a message with your request here.

How do I request a custom order?
Custom orders can be requested through the contact form here.

Why are Cuttlepods so expensive?
Cuttlepods are a handmade item. The cost of a Cuttlepod not only pays for the cost of materials, but also the development and testing of the original pattern, the labour hours required to make the plush from start to finish, the cost of hosting a website, the labour hours on the back end needed for bookkeeping, and feeding and housing both myself and my puppy. Moose is a giant dog and eats a LOT!
A handmade item from a small local business will always cost more than something mass produced overseas in sweatshops. If an item claims to be handmade, but the price is too good to be true, it is likely a drop-shipped item you can find on AliExpress for much cheaper. Sadly, this is the way all "handmade" marketplaces like Etsy are going. The majority of the items are imported and resold for profit without the seller creating any of it themself. Reverse Google image search is one way to determine if an item is genuinely handmade. Thank you for reading my TED talk. :)

What materials are Cuttlepods made out of?
Cuttlepods are made out of faux fur fabrics and materials (vegan and kind to animals). I use only the highest quality materials I can get my hands on. They are filled with new, fluffy, polyester stuffing (fiberfill). Weighted Cuttlepods are filled with polyester stuffing and virgin (new material) plastic pellets. These plastic pellets do not degrade over time like beans, rice, or buckwheat.

Why do all Cuttlepods have embroidered faces?
Cuttlepod faces are embroidered to eliminate the risk of press-on or sew-on safety eyes coming loose over time. Loose parts can create a serious choking hazard, while embroidery is just thread sewn into the fabric to create a design. Embroidery is also softer than plastic eyes, and is much nicer to cuddle with (in my opinion).

What are all the other (non-Cuttlepod) products found on the website?

Cuttlepods are the main product created by the small business "Studio Braun". Studio Braun is the registered name of my business. Under Studio Braun, I create and sell handmade products in different categories such as woodworking, fine art (oil paintings), and even laser cutting/engraving.
